Today we are only able to visit Erlan in the morning. He has a chest cold. Apparently he was up all night. Poor guy. He acted tired during our visit, but he wasn’t overly fussy. He spent most of our visit on my lap. He never wandered very far from Mom. He would walk over to Daddy for food and drink, but then he made a quick retreat for me.We were lucky to get to see him this morning. The doctor didn’t really want us to see him but (thankfully) relented. I wish that they would let me just rock him this afternoon so he could have some comfort while he’s sick, but it isn’t allowed.
We got a few smiles and giggles out of him. He really
likes throwing things. Whenever he puckers his lips, you better watch out b/c he is going to hurl something across the room. We’re going to have to curtail this activity. It’s not something I’d like to see continue in our home.
Here's Erlan making a mess. He likes to practice this activity lots. I think he's just worried about fitting in with all of his cousins, not to mention his Daddy.We also changed his clothes again today. We bought him some sort of terry cloth outfit. It is very soft. I think that it’s also very warm. The caretakers like to layer the children, so I put on a pair of cotton PJs and then the new outfit. He started sweating up a storm. We got the pajama shirt off. He would have been perfectly happy to sit around his undershirt (yes, he had one layer on under the two that I put on), but this is not allowed. I had to put the heavy shirt back on him. I think that he was much more comfortable.
He drank from his sippee cup again. He’s got this activity mastered! We didn’t give him any water today. We ate carrots in front of him. He put one in his mouth and then threw it. We’ll keep trying. (The carrots were actually very good.)

Love the video -- you are so clever! Hopefully the chest cold will clear up and not interfere with your visits. This time is so important.
looks like peek-a-boo is a fun game for him. i noticed in one of his pics that he had a runny nose.it does seem like they keep a close watch on their health care. that is good. i know this is quite a waiting game but it sounds like they are covering all the bases. better to know now if there is any problem before you get him home. i know everything will be just fine. love, mom

My boys didn't eat carrots for a long, long time. Luke finally started eating them when he figured out how much guinea pigs like them.
Poor Erlan!!! It's not fun being sick. He would probably love you to just hold him and rock him. Do they have doctors on staff full time? Did you have to beg and plead with the doctor to see him or was it the caretaker? Did they tell you that morning you weren't going to be able to see him in the afternoon? How far is your apt from the orphanage? I love the video. Have you seen the room that he stays in with the other kids? Do they get to run around and play with each other? What is it like? Will they let you view him interact with the other kids? what is the building like? Hospital, school? single floor or multi level? Take a pic of the outside. Is it like a big compound? The countdown is on. Do you think you will get to go to court early? & yeah for messes!!! :) He's going to fit right in! :)

hope erlan is feeling better today. a lot of tlc will help and i know he gets that. talked to debbie last night. she has enjoyed your pics and blogs. they will be here in may and debbie may stay. they think they will be home for good by sept. maybe erlan has heard the same story that gage did about carrots and that is why he won't eat them. ha! try green beans or do they have melons? i think he needs a flat cake to help his cold like amy did . she is feeling much better. looking forward to more pics and videos. love mom
Okay. You're starting to worry us. We still haven't heard anything today and it's almost 6PM Thursday -- Missouri time. I hope everything is okay, and that Erlan is feeling better. I wish you could be in there rocking and comforting the little guy.
